Drawing People and Places

Do you enjoy sketching people or places while you enjoy a coffee? Or would you

like to, but feel a little self-conscious doing so by yourself? Then this group is for

you!

This group will be meeting at different cafés or urban locations in the Blue Mountains

area on a fortnightly basis to draw either people or the location while we have a

coffee, or at the Centre to do timed drawings of each other. What you draw is up to

you, there are no rules for the group. If in a café/urban location you may work on

one piece for the allocated time or do shorter sketches. At the end of the 2-hour

session we’ll compare our efforts and have the chance to learn from each other. The

aim of the group is to enjoy a common interest in sketching in a supportive, social

environment – a kind of mix of life drawing and urban sketching.

You can choose whatever materials you like to draw or paint the subjects. Bring

anything you need – it is completely up to you. However, if we are in cafes it would

not be suitable for oil or acrylic painting or using easels.

Keep in mind this is not a tutored class, but you are sure to learn from each other as

you tackle the various challenges of the subjects. You will also learn from watching

the way other people use different media and papers.

To ensure that we can manage numbers appropriately the convenor would need to

know who will be coming before each session.
